Coventry City are poised to receive a significant windfall as Viktor Gyökeres edges closer to a move from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal, with a potential transfer fee expected in the £60 - 70 million range. Thanks to a savvy 10% sell-on clause, the Sky Blues stand to profit significantly from the Swedish striker’s latest move.

📜 The Sell-On Deal Explained

When Gyökeres joined Sporting for approximately £17.5 million in mid-2023, Coventry negotiated a 15% sell-on clause, later reduced to 10% after Sporting triggered performance-based payments totaling around €3 million (£2.5 million) to sweeten the deal.

This clause ensures Coventry will receive 10% of any profit above their original fee.

Coventry City stand to earn around £4–5 million from Viktor Gyökeres’s anticipated £60–70M move to Arsenal, thanks to a smart 10% sell-on clause triggered after Sporting’s record transfer fee.

💰 How Much Could Coventry Earn?

If Arsenal complete the transfer for around €70 million (~£60 million), Sporting would profit roughly £42.5 million (i.e., €70m minus the €20m they paid Coventry).

Coventry’s 10% share would then be approximately £4.25 million.

  • At £60m, Coventry would receive ~£4.25m

  • At £70m, Coventry stands to pocket ~£5.25m
