Birmingham City are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Kyogo Furuhashi from Rennes, aiming to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025–26 Championship season. The 30‑year‑old Japanese striker, once a prolific scorer at Celtic, has struggled for game time in Ligue 1—but now looks set to join Chris Davies' side.
💰 Deal Details: €12 Million Including Performance Add‑Ons
According to The Scottish Sun, Birmingham and Rennes have already entered late-stage talks. Rennes are understood to be recouping the majority of their €12 million outlay, if add-on clauses are triggered.

📊 Kyogo Furuhashi - Performance Stats Breakdown
⚽ Premier League (Celtic) – 2024–25 Highlights
Goals per 90: 0.68 (10 goals from 22 league matches)
Goal Involvement per 90: 0.88 (10 goals + 3 assists)
Non-penalty xG per 90: 0.73 (also 10.78 total xG)
Shots per 90: 3.30, with 67% accuracy
These stats land him in football’s upper echelons (99th percentile) for conversion and expected goals. He’s a forward who consistently delivers on and off the ball.
It's a hefty fee for a 30-year-old Kyogo Furuhashi, but a fee that suggests Birmingham are going for it this summer. Especially following the arrivals already of Demarai Gray, Phil Neumann, James Beadle and Tommy Doyle.
One other player linked is Ashley Phillips from Spurs, however that interest seems to have dropped off due to other expenditure.
